This is a question that many people have when they first start taking CBD. There are many different methods used to determine how much CBD you should take. Some say that the amount should be a certain number of milligrams (mg) based on physical characteristics like your age, sex, and weight. Others say that the dosage amount depends on the reason you are using CBD and the symptoms you would like to relieve. Then the packaging lists a suggested dose without any consideration of those things.
The truth is, since everyone’s body is different, the perfect dose of CBD is different for each person. One person might find that their optimal dose, or “sweet spot,” is very low, only a few drops per day. Another person might decide they need to take more than 100 mg of CBD per day. You will probably decide that the amount of CBD you should take is somewhere in the middle.
It is important to find that “sweet spot” of CBD oil for you. If you take too little, you may not feel any effects. If you take too much, you may get undesired side effects like headaches or nausea. It is also very important that you take CBD regularly. You may experience results right away or it may take weeks or months. Personally, it took about 6 weeks for me to really feel the effects. My husband started feeling them after the first dose.
If this is your first time taking a CBD oil tincture, it’s best to start low and add more every few days until you reach the “sweet spot” when you feel the effects of the CBD. For example, you could start with 3-5 drops in the morning and 3-5 drops before bed. Then increase by a few drops every 5 to 7 days until you find the amount that works for you. 5 drops of 500mg CBD is approximately 2.5 mg of CBD. As you raise the amount you take, you can use the measurements on the dropper to determine the amount of CBD you are taking.
It may take some experimenting to figure out your “sweet spot.” Maybe, you stop feeling the effects during the day and want to add a midday dose. Or instead of taking the same number of drops morning and night, you might increase one dose and not the other. Just be patient and do what feels best to you.
To maximize absorption, hold the CBD oil under your tongue for at least 15-30 seconds before swallowing and do not eat or drink for 15-30 minutes. CBD oil taken this way can be absorbed directly into your bloodstream through the capillaries in your mouth and take effect in just a few minutes. When you swallow CBD, some of the CBD will be destroyed by the acid in your digestive system. It also takes an hour or more to get into your bloodstream and take effect.
How much CBD is in a tincture?
If you take the total milligrams of CBD in a bottle divided by the number of milliliters, you will find out the number of mgs per mL. A 1 oz, 500 mg CBD tincture has 500 mg of CBD per bottle or 16.67 mg of CBD per mL. A 750 mg tincture has 25 mg of CBD per mL. There are approximately 20 drops in a mL of Lyrical Life Essentials CBD oil. That means that each drop contains .5 mg of CBD.
How do you know your CBD has this much?
How can you be sure a product has as much CBD as it claims? Check the lab test results. These tests are done by an independent, accredited lab, not the manufacturer. If a company refuses to show you test results from an independent lab, it may be a good idea to look for another CBD product.
Can you overdose on CBD?
CBD is safe to use even in high quantities of over 1,200 mg per day. There are some possible side effects like fatigue, diarrhea, and changes in appetite or weight but a premium quality CBD won’t kill you.
If you are taking any medications, we recommend talking to your doctor before taking any kind of CBD to make sure it doesn’t interact negatively with your prescriptions.
Both CBD and grapefruit inhibit cytochrome p450, so take extra precautions if you are taking a medication that comes with a warning not to consume with grapefruit.
